Winter Weather Forecast

It was reported recently that both AccuWeather and the Climate Prediction Center are now forecasting a colder winter, with a 62% chance of a La Niña forming between November and January, up from a 26% chance forecast in August.

A La Niña would bring colder temperatures to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions, particularly compared to last year’s milder winter. For both the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast this should translate into an above average snow season.

“Areas in the I-95 corridor will average close to normal, within a few inches,” AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok said.  Areas away from the I-95 corridor have a better chance at a big snowfall.”
